Martial Arts Training Requires The Right Mindset
Learning in martial arts is about earning advancements. Our training prepares students to enter the competitive college environments with an understanding of what is necessary to achieve their goals. Advancement with us is earned by demonstrating what you have learned and retained. The same skills learned in martial arts training apply to scholastic learning. This is why many of our students see improved success in school. It’s a by-product of our training. It does not happen if a student just shows up for class and trains with little effort. Our students learn that success is a direct result of hard work. We train our students to think of their individual efforts like this:
“There are only good days and better days. If you feel good about the effort you put in you will always have a good day, regardless of the results. Better days are a product of the same effort with better results.”
Sometimes life can be stressful and it’s important that students remember that whenever they step through the door at the school that they leave the distractions of a stressful day behind them. Leave those worries outside the door, no one on the mats understands those stressors and talking about them only interrupts the constructive learning environment we are striving for. If the stress is too much to overcome, they probably don’t need to be on the mats. That’s perfectly fine, things do happen. We understand that not everyone is “wired” the same way and stress is a very personal response. You can’t just lump it into a “bad day”. Use your training to prepare yourself to deal with the stressors in your life. Our training has a way boosting moods and perspectives that can make conquering stress triggers much easier to do.
