About The Martial Experience at PVMAA
For the last ten years, Ponte Vedra Martial Arts Academy, has served as part of the village that supports the growth of local families in the Ponte Vedra and Nocatee areas. While we are proud to serve well beyond our local market, we continue to be focused on the needs of the local community.
When Master Bill retired, he and his family decided to follow the Martial Tradition of “paying it forward” by bringing a first-class training experience to the Ponte Vedra and Nocatee communities. After having spent 20 years training in martial arts learning five styles, he decided that Tang Soo Do was the best style for the families in the area. Our vision today is as it was when we opened to doors, to use martial arts training to teach valuable life skills to families.
We are unique in that we have targeted programs for various groups of students that utilize the teachings from Grand Master Song Ki Pak, President of the United Tang Soo Do Federation. Tang Soo Do is similar to Tae Kwon Do, and our Tang Soo Do places more emphasis on hand techniques. As a result, Tang Soo Do tends to be more self-defense based.
We are proud to be affiliated with the United Tang Soo Do Federation and our students enjoy the opportunities to work with Grand Master and the UTF. That said we are also independent of the Federation. This gives us the freedom to make adjustments to our curriculum and offerings to best reflect the needs of the community. We regularly evaluate the curriculum and fine tune it with new training protocols to keep the classes interesting and fulfilling for the students.
We offer specially tailored programs for 4 & 5 year-olds, and 6 & 7 year-olds, along with our Essential Tang Soo Do program for Kids, Teens and Adults. A wide range of ages consider PVMAA their martial family home. We also run a popular martial arts based hybrid after-school called the Martial Advantage Program.
Our training philosophy is Traditional. Training intensifies as students earn ranks and everything builds on the teachings from the Introductory classes. At each promotion the expectations change creating more challenges for the students, ultimately getting students prepared to earn a Black Belt. Our students walk their own path to Black Belt and they get there when they get there. We do not have a separate designation for “junior” Black Belts. When you earn a Black Belt at PVMAA, it is not age limited.
Unfortunately, not all students will continue their training after their First Degree Black Belt. For students that want to continue there is a clearly defined path to advanced Black Belt, Master Black Belt, Senior Master Black Belt, and Grand Master. It takes years of commitment to achieve these higher ranks.
We place a high value on our own abilities as instructors and we continue to earn rank through our own personal training.
When you or your child are ready to experience the many advantages of learning and practicing the martial arts, look no further than Ponte Vedra Martial Arts Academy and Master Bill’s team of certified Master Instructors for group classes and personal training. Our students develop mental and physical strength and learn invaluable self-defense techniques.
Ponte Vedra Martial Arts Academy offers a range of martial arts for kids, martial arts for teens, and martial arts for adults, as well as scenario based self-defense training and traditional weapons training. We also offer a popular martial arts based after-school program to meet the preferences and interests of students.
